Public Safety Dispatcher
Kansas City, Kansas Police Department

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, KS is seeking applicants for the position of Public Safety Dispatcher. This position offers many satisfying and rewarding opportunities to help others and make a sufficient contribution to public safety. This challenging, fast-paced work requires quick thinking and problem solving abilities, and excellent public relations skills.

Primary duties include: receiving citizens’ requests for services of public safety units; dispatching public safety units to respond to calls; maintaining records on each unit in the assigned division; operating teletype machine, complex radio, telephone, and computer networks.

The Communications Center is a 24-hour facility and incumbents must be able to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts. Mandatory overtime is required on an as needed basis.

SALARY $2,681.10/ month
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED. Three years stable work experience.

Must have excellent communication, listening, and voice skills and be able to effectively deal with stressful conditions. Must be able to type 40 words per minute. Must pass PSE/Polygraph test and background check. Must be able to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays. Skills test will be given at time of application.
