Barber County Sheriff's Office in Medicine Lodge, KS is accepting applications for the full-time position of patrol sergeant. The Patrol Deputy/Sergeant performs a variety of routine and complex law enforcement duties in the administration of the Sheriff's Office. Must be able to work in close concert with the Barber County Attorney, Medicine Lodge Police Department and Kiowa Police Department. This employee must have excellent communications, leadership ability, problem solving, organizational, reasoning and public relations skills.
Patrol duties include enforcing traffic laws, investigation of crimes and accidents, and providing public assistance. Barber County Sheriff Deputies are required to exercise initiative and discretion while handling emergency situations. Barber County Sheriff Deputies are required to work 12 hour shifts (can vary), holidays, weekends and special events as assigned. The Barber County Sheriff's Office wants individuals with the ability to enforce all federal, state, and local laws in a fair and just manner. This work involves an element of personal danger and threat of life.
The ideal deputy will have demonstrated leadership experience, tactical competence and proven work ethic. Kansas Full-time certified is preferred.

SALARY: Salary range for the Sergeant position is $16.00 - $20.00 per hour depending on qualifications. The position reports to the Undersheriff. County benefit package consists of health, retirement, life insurance, vacation, holidays, sick leave and take home car. Job requires living in Barber County prior to first day of employment.

Work experience should include a minimum of three (3) years as a certified peace officer with a minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience.
Possession of, or ability to obtain appropriate certification as a police officer in the State of Kansas is required.
