The Public Safety Officer (LEO) reports to and is supervised by the Director of Public Safety. The Public Safety Officer (LEO) is assigned to provide a walking and driving patrol of the campus to protect personnel, property and facilities, to provide assistance when needed, respond to and manage emergency situations, deter criminal activity, detect and investigate criminal activity, enforce state and local statutes and ordinances, and provide for the safety and security of the College; maintain peace and order on the campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Special Characteristics: Minimum age requirement is twenty-one (21) years of age. This provides an authority of legal age to enforce alcoholic beverage use regulations, and the state required age to be a law enforcement officer; the position requires frequent vigorous physical activity and the ability to perform a continuous, active walking/driving patrol during 8 hour shift of the campus including climbing steps and ramps; must be neat in appearance; must possess willingness to work irregular shifts and overtime hours and diverse assignments as directed; must be able to make decisions in emergencies; must possess knowledge and understanding of current police practices, protocols and procedures; must possess knowledge and understanding of the workings of the Kansas criminal justice system; and must possess knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal laws applicable to the police function generally.
