The City of Ellsworth is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to fill the position of Police Chief within the Ellsworth Police Department. Reporting to the City Administrator, the Police Chief will serve as a vital leader in the department, responsible for overseeing all aspects of law enforcement operations and ensuring the safety and security of the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans and objectives for the Police Department in alignment with the city's goals.

  • Direct and supervise department personnel, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluation.

  • Enforce federal, state, and local laws, and oversee investigations of crimes and accidents.

  • Collaborate with other city departments, as well as external agencies, to coordinate emergency response efforts and community outreach initiatives.

  • Manage departmental budgets and resources effectively to maintain financial stability.

  • Foster positive relationships with community members, stakeholders, and local government officials.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Represent the Police Department at local and state law enforcement associations and events.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of law enforcement experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required; college degree preferred.

  • Certification from KLETC (or reciprocity) within one year of employment.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and effectively manage crisis situations.

  • Proficiency in technology and departmental equipment.

  • Valid Kansas Driver’s License and clean driving record.

  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug/alcohol testing and background check.

Salary negotiable with qualifications and experience.

Pay Ban:  $ 66,560 - $ 72,800+
