The Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for two dedicated and community-oriented School Resource Officer (SRO) for Wabaunsee USD329. This full-time position serves as a liaison between law enforcement and the Wabaunsee County school community, fostering a safe educational environment while building positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
During the school year, the SRO will be assigned to local schools to provide on-site law enforcement support, teach safety and prevention programs, and respond to incidents as needed.
Primary Responsibilities:

Provide a visible and active law enforcement presence on school campuses

Build trust and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
-
Teach safety education programs, including D.A.R.E. and crime prevention topics
-
Assist in emergency planning and response in school settings
-
Work closely with school administrators to address student safety and discipline
-
Support Sheriff’s Office patrol operations during school breaks or holidays
-
Attend school activities such as home sports events and assemblies as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Must be at least 21 years of age
-
U.S. citizen with a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving history
-
High school diploma or GED
-
No felony or domestic violence convictions
-
Must pass a background investigation, psychological exam, drug screening, and physical exam
-
Strong communication, interpersonal, and de-escalation skills
-
Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in school settings
-
Previous law enforcement experience preferred but not required
Training:
-
Success completion of KLETC minimum requirements
-
Completion of SRO Basic Training Course (40 hours) within nine months of assignment
-
D.A.R.E. Instructor Certification may be required and will be provided by the agency

Ongoing annual training and firearms qualification required
