The North Newton Police Department is seeking a Police Sergeant to serve as second-in-command to the Chief of Police. This working supervisor position includes regular patrol duties, traffic enforcement, responding to calls for service, and report writing. The Sergeant also assists with supervising full-time and part-time officers, coordinating schedules, providing training and mentorship, and supporting administrative functions. This role is essential to maintaining operational readiness, promoting officer development, and ensuring effective day-to-day performance. Pay Range: $28.21 – $39.50/hour, determined based on experience (DOE)
Sign-On Bonus: $10,000, paid in three installments
Work Schedule: 12-hour shifts with every other weekend off

Required Qualifications:

Must be a United States citizen

No felony convictions or disqualifying misdemeanor convictions, including domestic violence

High school diploma or GED

Good moral character
-
Pass psychological testing

Free of any physical or mental condition that would impair essential law enforcement duties

At least 21 years of age

Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) certification or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment
Position Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Assist in supervising daily patrol operations and assigned personnel

Help coordinate schedules and on-call rotation to ensure adequate coverage

Respond to field incidents and serve as acting supervisor when the Chief is unavailable

Cover patrol shifts and respond to calls for service

Conduct traffic enforcement and promote roadway safety

Write and review reports for accuracy and completeness

Assist with training, mentoring, and evaluating officers

Support department planning and complete administrative reporting

Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts

Help foster positive community engagement and uphold department values
