Under the supervision of the Chief of Police, the Police Officer performs duties in the protection of life, property and the preservation of order in the City of Lyons. The employee in this position enforces all federal, state and local laws in accordance with departmental rules, policies, and regulations. Patrol duties include enforcing traffic laws, investigation of crimes and accidents, and providing public assistance. This employee will be required to exercise initiative and discretion when faced with emergency conditions. This work involves an element of personal danger. This is a non-exempt position. Officers with the Lyons Police Department work a 12-hour rotating shift with every other weekend off to include Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Lyons Police Department is consisted of 7 full-time commissioned Officers and 1 part-time Officer. Must be highly motivated and able to work with little or no supervision.
Salary Range:
Wages very competitive, $19.30/ hour starting for non-certified and certified hourly wage will be depending on qualifications of the applicant. Essential Functions:

Be knowledgeable of all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.

Investigate suspicious conditions, citizen complaints, traffic accidents, and traffic enforcement.

Knowledgeable of the court system and presentation of evidence in court proceedings.

Type and submit incident reports to the county attorney as well as to local law enforcement agencies as well as following up with cases as deemed necessary.

Assist with developing and implementing various safety strategies and plans.

Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with others.

Attend schools and seminars to maintain proficiency and certifications.

Coordinate community policing efforts to ensure safe and secure communities.

Respond to emergencies and critical incidents such as fire alarms, medical emergencies, altercations,
threats of violence etc. for the purpose of confining, resolving, or preventing injury or otherwise
hazardous situations.

Must be willing to work a highly flexible schedule based on case load and needs of the department.
Education:
High school diploma or GED required. Commissioned as a law enforcement officer requires graduation from law enforcement training center (K.L.E.T.C. Certification) and 40 hours of continuing education training annually.
