About the Position
The City of Edwardsville, Kansas, is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and community-oriented professional to serve as its Deputy Police Chief. This position serves as a key member of the Police Department’s executive leadership team and is responsible for assisting the Chief of Police in planning, directing, and coordinating all departmental operations. The Deputy Police Chief provides leadership in administrative, operational, and community engagement functions and assumes command of the department in the Chief’s absence.

Key Responsibilities

Assists in managing day-to-day department operations and strategic planning.

Supervises assigned divisions, command staff, and subordinate personnel.

Oversees internal affairs investigations, performance management, and training programs.

Supports budget preparation, grant management, and departmental reporting.

Coordinates interagency operations and represents the City at regional and community events.

Promotes community policing, engagement, and proactive problem-solving.

Serves as Acting Chief of Police when designated.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (Master’s degree preferred).

Certified law enforcement officer under Kansas law.

Minimum of four (4) years of progressive law enforcement experience, including at least two (2) years at the rank of Sergeant or higher.

Demonstrated leadership and administrative experience.

Valid Kansas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of advanced leadership or command training (FBI-LEEDA, Command College, etc.).

Experience with departmental accreditation, grants, or special operations.
