The City of Harper is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Chief of Police due to the upcoming retirement of the current Chief at the end of 2026. Harper is located in southcentral Kansas approximately 45 miles SW of Wichita, Ks.

Under the supervision of the City Administrator, the Chief of Police oversees and provides for the service and protection of the citizens of Harper. This is a working chief position that may require working weekends and holidays, combining leadership, administrative responsibilities and active participation in patrol and law enforcement duties. Supervising two full time officers, three part time officers, and a reserve program, preparing the department's budget, resolving personnel issues and citizen concerns are the primary responsibilities of this position. The successful candidate will possess excellent supervisory, managerial, organizational, communication and public relation skills.

Salary Benefits :  Salary range for this position is $58,500 - $87,700 DOQ. Benefits include health, dental, vision and life insurance: KPERS retirement and 457(b) deferred compensation options with employer match: paid vacation, sick and funeral leave>

Minimum Requirements :  A high school diploma or GED and a technical dedree or some college credit in Criminal Justice or related field is required. A minimum of ten years of law enforcement experience is required, with a minimum of three years supervisory experience, a current KLETC certification, and valid driver's license. The successful candidate must be able to pass a physical exam and background check oafter an offer of employment has been made. Residency within the city limits IS REQUIRED within 6 montsh of employment.
