The Marysville Police Department is seeking a professional, community-minded leader to fill the role of Police Lieutenant. This critical supervisory position balance hands-on law enforcement duties with high-level administrative oversight. As Lieutenant, you will serve as a either a Watch Commander or Investigations Supervisor/ Administrative Lieutenant assisting with our CALEA accreditation process.

We are looking for an individual who exercises high discretion, champions high standards in performance, leads with character, and can confidently step in as Acting Chief of Police when assigned.

Key Responsibilities

1. Watch Commander & Field Leadership

  • Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and operational leadership for shift personnel.

  • Manage calls for service, ensure minimum staffing levels, and maintain equipment readiness.

  • Establish command, manage resources, and oversee responses during critical incidents or major events.

  • Serve as a community ambassador, including weekly visits and engagement with local schools and community events.

2. Investigation Supervision

  • Supervise or directly conduct major, high-profile, or unique criminal investigations.

  • Oversee and manage crime scene investigations utilizing modern best practices.

  • Train and develop staff to enhance the department's overall investigative performance.

3. Administration & Asset Management

  • Assist the agency’s CALEA Accreditation Manager.

  • Act as the lead evidence custodian for the department.

  • Coordinate departmental training schedules, goal setting, and shift scheduling.

  • Review, approve, and organize police reports and oversee equipment maintenance.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Active certification as a Kansas Law Enforcement Officer, or equivalent if out of state.

  • Valid Kansas Driver’s License.

  • Current certifications in firearms, radar, intoxilyzer, CPR, and first aid.

  • Commitment to completing 40 hours of annual recertification.

Preferred:

  • Associate degree or technical school equivalent.

  • 4 years of law enforcement experience.

  • Additional instructor certifications.

Pay based on qualifications.
