    The Kansas State University Police Department is actively seeking candidates to fill the position of part-time OJ officer. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone with current peace officer credentials. There are no minimum required hours, and assignments are strictly voluntary and as your time allows. KSUPD offers an excellent hourly wage. The primary responsibilities of this position involve providing security at diverse special events such as the Big XII Football and Basketball games, the McCain performance series, and the Union Programming Council functions. Additionally, this position provides an excellent opportunity to network and make connections with other agencies from across the state.     La Cygne is a community of 1050 people in Linn County just off US69 Hwy, proving a quick drive to the KC Metro area. The department consists of 3 Full-Time officers and currently 4 Part-Time positions with an excellent teamwork culture! While small, LCPD emphasizes training and equipment to ensure officers are capable of handling any and all calls with proficiency and accuracy and we are seeking proactive and community policing-oriented persons to join us, part-time!

    The part-time shifts consist of Friday evenings and Saturday mornings/evenings and require at least one weekend a month.

    There is also an opportunity for 30-36 hours a week, Thursday-Saturday for 15 weeks from the last weekend in May until the second weekend in August (summer months) for a more seasonal position.

    Preferred applicants are current or previously certified officers, within their 5-year period. But uncertified may still be eligible!
    Uncertified applicants must attend the Kansas Part-Time Academy and complete the Field Training Officer (FTO) process.

    $20-$23 per hour DOQ

    Testifies in court as an expert.

    Conducts and attends training sessions.

    Extensive travel, including overnight is required of this position.

    Licensing & Certification

    • Current certification as a full-time law enforcement officer by the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Commission as required by K.S.A. 74-5601a. Out of state certifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
    • Must complete certification as a Fire Investigator and a Hazardous Materials Technician prior to completing probation. 
    • Must have a current, valid driver's license.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Must be a United States citizen and at least 21 years of age.
    • Five years' experience in general law enforcement and criminal investigation, with at least two years of that being felony-level investigative experience.
    • Must be free of any Brady issues.
    • This position requires the use of a firearm for law enforcement duties therefore, candidates cannot have been convicted of, and must be free of any diversions from, a felony or misdemeanor domestic violence crime as set forth in 18 U.S.C. § 922(d)(9) and (g)(9).   
    • Must be able to complete annual fitness for duty medical examinations and be free of any issues that would prevent using respiratory protective equipment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
    • Experience with fire and explosive investigations.
    • Experience in processing crime scenes and collecting evidence.
    • Experience with writing affidavits and submitting requests for search warrants.
    • Knowledge of court procedures and experience testifying in criminal matters. 
    • Experience in instructing and presenting to adult learners. 
    • Knowledge of Kansas Statutes and Administrative Regulations.

    This position is responsible for the preservation of peace, control crime and enforce all state and federal laws and regulations. Maintains security and order within the Reno County Jail to ensure safety of all persons and property. Performs a variety of recurring duties according to standardized departmental policies and procedures, selects applicable methods to take authoritative action in response to situational demands. Receives indirect supervision and refers to supervisor for unusual matters.
